Norfolk Community Foundation have been producing videos to prepare people for work thanks to Inclusive Economy Project funding from East Coast College. In this case the focus is on how to prepare for an interview.
Last month we told you about how the project had begun. Over the last few months, they have been connecting with local businesses and top Norfolk employers. Their focus has been on building opportunities for people across Norfolk, especially those furthest from the workplace. This project aims to get people from where they are to where they want to be, raising career and job aspirations around the county by de-mystifying the job application process.
It can be hard to know what to expect from a job interview. You might never have attended one before, or not had one for some time. To help give people trying to access work a helping hand, we asked employers for their top tips and advice. This link will take to you to a series of short videos with local employers, talking to Philanthropy Advisor, Lauren, about how you can prepare for the big day.
For VCSE organisations
On the other side of the fence, Voluntary Norfolk’s CBR service, which organises HR, Payroll and DBS Checks for several charities and small businesses across Norfolk has in the past put on training sessions about how to get the best candidates. They consider:
- recruitment and selection bias and how that affects a recruiter’s decision making
- what legislative requirements recruiters have to meet and look out for any ‘bear traps’
- how recruiters can hire the best candidates and methods to consider
- ways recruiters can improve their interviewing skills and techniques
