Volunteers Week Fast Approaching

Volunteers Week takes place 1-7 June every year. It’s a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and say thank you.

This 38th annual Volunteers’ Week is taking place during the #MonthOfCommunity. Running throughout June, #MonthOfCommunity brings together organisations with a range of events in order to encourage us all to think about and join in with activities happening in our local communities. This year Volunteers Week also coincides with national celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee, and we are keen to ensure that the amazing contribution of volunteers is recognised throughout the whole week.

During Volunteers Week, the Empowering Communities Team will be focussing on different aspects of volunteering each day in our media activity and social media posts.  If you would like to promote volunteering in your organisation, shine a spotlight on your activities, or feature a volunteer story, do please send your information to us at volunteercentre@voluntarynorfolk.org.uk

The communications team at CAN and Voluntary Norfolk are currently putting together some resources which will be available to VCSE groups in Norfolk on the Empowering Communities website. These will focus on the following themes each day:

  • Wednesday 1st June – ‘A Time to Say Thanks’ – focus on people who have been volunteering in response to the Covid-19 pandemic
  • Thursday 2nd June – Big Jubilee Lunch – focus on mutual aid and other community support
  • Friday 3rd June – focus on the contribution of Trustees
  • Saturday 4th/Sunday 5th June – Volunteering and wellbeing – a focus on the benefits people can gain from volunteering
  • Monday 6th June – The Power of Youth – focus on young people and volunteering
  • Tuesday 7th June – Volunteers Week ends – a final thank you and ways people can get involved in the future

In the meantime, NCVO have put together some national resources that VCSE organisations can use, which can be found here.

If you’re interested in volunteering in Norfolk, why not have a look at our Volunteer Passport offer.
