Trustees Week is taking place on the 7th to 11th of November. It celebrates the difference that the over 1 million trustees make in the UK. To mark the week, our partner, Voluntary Norfolk, would like to showcase the support Empowering Communities provides to trustees and organisations seeking to recruit trustees.
Voluntary Norfolk believes that having a diverse board helps charities build resilience and adapt to change more quickly. This is why they have created a space on their volunteering platform just for trustee roles. They intend to use this space to promote the many and varied trustee roles out there. They also want to help people understand more about being on a charity board.
We are keen to encourage more young people into trustee roles as it is a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills and build up your CV, as demonstrated by this interview on our You Tube channel with Niall McClelland, a trustee for Homestart Norfolk in 2021: Conversation with Trustees – Home-Start Norfolk – YouTube
Since 2020, the VCSE sector has adapted to doing more work online. This means that it is (theoretically!) easier for people to fit being a trustee around working and caring responsibilities. All the sector now needs to do is convince more people that they have what it takes! We hope that Get InVOLved will go some way to achieving this. We hope it inspires more people to consider the positive impact they could have by taking on such a role.
You can find further information about trustees week and what entails to recruit. train and support a trustee here. Voluntary Norfolk have also put together a selection of assets and resources for VCSE sector organisations to use to promote their trustees, which can be found here.
